Not at all like in customary learning, internet learning doesn't include eye to eye collaborations among teachers and understudies. Understudies create plans dependent on their accessibility to go to classes (Ward, 2012). Then again, students have opportunity to work through course material just when they are accessible. Web based learning offers understudies a chance to learn at their own pace consequently gu aranteeing that they handle the substance completely (Siemens, 2013). Moreover, understudies don't sit for extended periods of time tuning in to addresses. E-learning requires elevated levels of order and duty with respect to the understudy since educators are absent to give bearings. Without discipline, numerous understudies burn through their time and wind up performing ineffectively in assessments. There are no vis-à-vis conversations, understudies choose when to go to classes, nonappearance from class isn't rebuffed, and trade of thoughts and feelings is supported (Ward, 2012). Web based learning dispensed with the need to drive to class each day to go to classes (Michels, 2013). Understudies go on the web and take classes whenever and from any piece of the world. Center moved from conversations and cooperation to singular examination (Siemens, 2013).Advertising Looking for evaluation on instruction? How about we check whether we can support you! Online conversation gatherings are not basic on the grounds that numerous understudies like to be self-governing (Michels, 2013). End of eye to eye collaborations among understudies and educators changed how learning is directed. In any case, center is principally around intuitive exercises, conversation sheets, games, and talks (Siemens, 2013). These stages offer understudies a chance to connect with teachers. Understudies pose inquiries, get explanation on indistinct issues, and present their schoolwork. Training materials are given in various structures that incorporate recordings, sound documents, messages, word archives, and PDF reports. Understudies with families and occupations, and individuals who didn't finish their instruction settle on online training. In the United States, a few states have created programs that e mpower understudies to finish their degrees through web based learning. States like Oregon and Wisconsin have programs that permit understudies to transform their activity abilities into school credits and hence decrease the quantity of units required to achieve their degrees (Michels, 2013). What's more, the projects additionally empower understudies to finish their degrees by offering free online courses and assessments from guaranteed universities. The web has numerous interruptions that influence the learning encounters and results of understudies (Michels, 2013). Along these lines, understudies should be profoundly restrained and centered so as to profit completely from web based learning. Seeking openings for work at that point becomes troublesome on the grounds that numerous businesses incline toward candidates who have sought after advanced education. Instruction is one of the most significant elements that encourage the move to white collar class. Thusly, web based learning helps understudies who can't manage the cost of advanced education to seek after their professions economically. Numerous colleges and schools have been censured for expanding the expense of training, offering low quality training, and being reluctant to grasp innovation so as to offer chances to more understudies (Koller, 2012).Advertising We will compose a custom evaluation test on Changes in Learning and Motivation with the Advent of Online Learning explicitly for you for just $16.05 $11/page Learn More The declining nature of training has exuded from inaccessibility of adequate teachers to deal with the high number of understudies (Cull, 2010). The presentation of internet learning empowered schools to deal with the extents of their classes in light of the fact that numerous understudies settled on the new framework. Customary learning is pricey contrasted with web based learning. Contrasts in cost exude from the need to pay education costs, buy learning materials, and compensate educators (Koller, 2012). In any case, costs, for example, acquisition of online materials and education costs are non-existent in internet learning. Understudies just compensation enlistment expenses, assessment charges, and a mo dest quantity of cash to provide food for learning materials and the compensation of teachers. Another factor that persuades understudies to contemplate online is the accessibility of data and the wide reach of web based learning (McKnight, 2011). Colleges and schools can offer their administrations to individuals who can't go to classes at grounds. This has prompted the end of limits for enlistment in light of the fact that the nature of instruction offered is of high caliber. What's more, there are various sorts of showing helps, for example, recordings and sound documents that make learning increasingly charming. Understudies have distinctive learning abilit ies that are adequately tended to and suited in internet learning (McKnight, 2011). Understudies make their own learning plans and investigate strategies that guarantee appropriate appreciation of learning material (Koller, 2012). In customary learning, educators don't tailor their instructing strategies to suit the diverse adapting needs of understudies. They use techniques that they consider proper for all understudies. This outcomes in terrible showing and low quality degrees. For instance, a few understudies see better utilizing visual guides (McKnight, 2011). The accessibility of various learning strategies has made web based learning exceptionally famous. Understudies are roused to seek after their instruction since they choose how, where, and what they realize (Koller, 2012). The freedom made by internet learning is an incredible propelling element. At last, e-learning encourages sharing of information and data by understudies far and wide. Graduation Speech - Original Writing - 855 Words

respected that because he valued my education. I was expected to graduate in May of 2014 and we planned to get married in March of 2014 right before my graduation. Things were going well until late February I stopped hearing from him for 10 days. I was worried, he hadn’t deployed or anything, but what if he got hurt. He ended up calling me two weeks before our wedding date to say that he was not the man I should marry and that he needed time to get to get himself together. I agreed respectfully and said that we could wait. The following weekend, I was informed that he married a women he had met 5 months prior. For successful implementation of the idea or service, the entrepreneur need to undergo the feasibility issues such as target market, organizational feasibility, industry feasibility and financial feasibility for understanding to what extent the idea will be feasible in the modern market trend (Boulton and Turner, 2005). Techniques for generating Ideas It is a common believe that entrepreneurs are born and cannot be created. The entrepreneur initially has a lot of ideas for the business but also need to understand the feasibility and opportunity for generating that idea. A most common way of generating new ideas of the business is through brainstorming (Durvasula and Lysonski, 2010). Here, the group leader or entrepreneur shares the idea among a group of people and collects feedbacks and opinions regarding the idea. Again, the entrepreneur can discuss about the ideas through focus group where the people involved are quiet familiar to the topic. Another way the entrepreneur can think of new ideas is through internet and library research. The internet provides a lot of information regarding the market trends and requirements of the users (Mandel and Virgil, 2011). So, based on the research, the entrepreneur can generate the new idea. Introduction of new idea and recognizing opportunities In todays busy world, people are becoming more inclined towards the internet and are focused on the uses of different applications in the Smart phones and I phones. So, for this assignment, the idea of an app will be generated and discussed to show its market feasibility and value in the existing and trendy market place (Silva et al. 2012). Moreover, the operation of this app is easy and is available in several languages. Abdin (2012) commented on the fact that to avoid asking other people regarding the addressees and preventing the chances to get misguided by the other people or in order to solve the linguistic problem, this application will prove helpful to the users. This application according to the entrepreneur is trendy and having so many advantages will certainly be successful in the technological driven market. Feasibility Analysis This is essential for the entrepreneur to understand the product and service that the app will be giving to the users and the level of practicability it will be having (Cook, 2012). For that, the feasibility analysis of the product and service, target market, organization and industry are done for better understanding of the market and the products. Product and Service Feasibility Analysis The entrepreneur has thought of the idea of launching an app that will help in searching the nearly hospitals, grocery shops and restaurants. According to Hayton and Cholakova (2011) the practical application of the product needs to be understood by the entrepreneur that to what extent the app will prove helpful to the users. 1st of all the app will be available nearly in all the languages so it will be helpful for people all around the world. Secondly, the phones having internet connection as well as GPS system, can easily access this app without hassle. Thirdly, the app is of 25 MB and will occupy a very small space in the storage. Fourthly, it automatically stores the data of the places once visited and can be accessed without internet during revisit making less consumption of internet. Moreover, the app is available in Google Play Store and Iphone Play store and can be accessed and downloaded by all without any hassle (Hampden-Turner, 2010). Target Market Feasibility Analysis Baumol (2011) had a view that the entrepreneur on understanding the relevance of the app and its uses, need to understand the target market. The usages of tablets and mobile phones have now become inseparable with the life of the people. Now days, nearly every individual is either having a Smartphone or an Iphone, so easily they can get it in the play stores. It is a trend in todays market to get trendy with the modern apps and so obviously this app can find a prestigious position in the market. So, the product will be finding its application in the market targeting huge number of mobile phone users (IoraitÄ—, 2014). The information that the app is promising its users will turn out to be friendly to the users. Organizational Feasibility Analysis This is necessary to understand the proposed business idea will be having sufficient organizational resources, management expertise and competence for successful launching of the app and running its business. Resource Sufficiency The resources are the essential component of any entrepreneurship business. This is because, from the view point of Levine (2012) for the launch of the app, sufficient resources such as human expertise in technical fields, lawyer, partner skills and goals, working place etc need to be analyzed precisely for the successful running of the business. Management Prowess For successful running of the business, another feasibility that needs to be analyzed is the organizational feasibility. According to Oncioiu (2012) the proposed business plan need to have employees those are honest as well as hard working along with good technical knowledge. The co founders of the business have to be adjusting, cooperative and focused towards their business. The management policies need to be fair and legally approved by the international laws of employment (Mutara, 2012). The manages and the co- founders of the business need to have huge social network connections for generating the ideas as well as publishing the apps in the market. Since, social media is a powerful tool of marketing and publishing the ideas of new business. Financial Feasibility Another analysis of feasibility that the entrepreneur needs to understand is the financial support and condition of the business. Yong and Ho (2006) commented on the fact that financial assessment is a crucial part within the organization since it helps to assess the position and strength of the firm. Based on the financial condition, the new employees, modern technologies and equipments are hired and bought to the organization for the successful making of the app and running it successfully. It has to be remembered that not only the cost of making of the app is essential but marketing and campaigning cost of this product and service is also equally important (Ng, 2012). This financial assessment is also essential for the organization. Through financial assessment, the revenues, sales and profits of the company are also analyzed. Industry Feasibility Analysis The entrepreneur needs to analyze the industrial feasibility factor that includes the environmental trends and business trends of the product and service. Abrams (2012) had an opinion that it is essential since the analysis helps in understanding the position of the competitors as well as the Government rules and laws for the better business development. Environmental Trends It is essential for the entrepreneur to know and have knowledge regarding the environmental trends since it helps in understanding the strength, weakness, opportunities and threats of the organization and its competitors. According to the opinion of Gao (2010) the entrepreneur needs to understand the surrounding environment for coping up with the existing environment and can be well explained through Porters 5 Force model. This model helps in understanding the threat of substitutes, threat of new entrants, rivalries among the existing firms, bargaining power of suppliers and bargaining power of buyers. The entrepreneur always have to keep in mind the threat of substitute products by the existing company at a low price and with new and more helpful features. Barringer and Ireland, (2012) had a view that for this app, if the other company has a better substitute app with modern features and characteristics then certainly it will be a threat to the company. Moreover, the threat of the n ew entrants may also be a rising problem to the organization. This is because; if the other entrepreneur with a better idea and better technology will be introducing a new app in the market that will be having more advanced and added features, then certainly the company and the entrepreneur idea will be in a stake. Since, the entrepreneur will be new to the market; it should have a strong bargaining power with its suppliers. Hampden-Turner (2010) commented on the fact that initially for the raw materials, high price will be given in exchange of superior quality raw materials for the production of the app. This is because, the entrepreneur in order to make the app, need good quality raw materials that need to be updated and modern. This is done for attracting the customers to a good extent and makes the app successful among the users. In addition to this, according to Cook (2012) the bargaining power of the buyers is also essential to be considered. This is because; the buyers will need the best quality products at a reasonable low price. So for keeping in pace with the buyers requirements and by market analysis, the pricing of the app should be done. Another essential part that the entrepreneur needs to remember is the rivalry among the existing firms. Moreover Gao (2010) had a view that it is obvious that when a new firm with a new idea will be introduced in the market, the firm will be facing some rivalries from the already existing firms regarding the diversification of the existing customers. The rivalry firms can take the new firm as their competitor in the market. Keeping all these things in mind and analyzing each of these factors vividly, the new entrepreneur needs to introduce the product and service into the market. Business Trends The entrepreneur need to understand the business trends of the market since it is essential to understand the market and its ongoing trends for the successful business implementation. The entrepreneur needs to understand the current trends of the business as well as the market for the successful implementation of the app among the users. The entrepreneur initially have to get through the proper understanding of the app to see its level of feasibility and help hat it can provide to the users. The present business trend is all about modern technology and high dependence on it for the daily help. Conclusion This is discussed in this paper regarding the entrepreneurship and methods of generating ideas along with generation of the new idea. The entrepreneur will be introducing a new app that will be supported in all the smart phones and Iphone. It will be providing help to users in finding out the restaurants, hospitals and grocery shops within 10 km of the users current position. This will be helpful to the users from getting well guided by the app and will prevent the users from getting mislead. Moreover, the feasibility of the app such as financial condition, organization analysis, environmental and business trends is well discussed for the better understanding of the assignment. The Allegory Of The Cave Essays (1044 words) - Platonism, Analogy

The Allegory Of The Cave ?The Allegory of the Cave,? by Plato: Theory of Dimensions In Plato's' The Allegory of the Cave, allows an individual to realize that which they already know. The situation in the cave seems dark and gloomy, like a place no one would ever want to go. However, the reality is that some people are at a point in their lives where that is where they are, in their own ?cave?. The people that are in Plato's' cave, the prisoners, have always been there. They all have their legs and necks chained and cannot move. They cannot turn their necks or bodies to look around them. The cave is very dark and there is a fire in the distance. There is a wall in front of them and men are frequently carrying tools and vessels and various shaped objects with them. This creates different shaped shadows for the prisoners to view. All that they have seen or ever known is what is in front of them, a two-dimensional world. A two-dimensional world would represent people that only saw what was in front of them. Plato said to Glaucon, ? To them, I said, the truth would be literally nothing but the shadows of the images.? One could only imagine, never seeing or having any previous knowledge of people or objects, only shadows on a wall. Like some people today, all the prisoners know is what is in front of them, a warped perception of reality. If a person only accepts what is in front of them, they too are living in a two-dimensional world. The shadows, to the prisoners are reality because it is all that they have ever known. They don't know that they are distorted and are a reflection of something that is real. One example that Plato might use if he were alive today would be a movie theatre. The movie projector would be the fire. The film showing would be the shadows reflected on the wall. The viewers are the prisoners. The shadows on the wall can be compared to most movies that are viewed today because they are not reality but a warped representation of it. If the viewer or prisoner chooses to accept what is in front of them as reality then they are in a sense choosing to live in a two-dimensional world. A prisoner would have to believe that there is more to life than what has been put in front of them in order to change the situation and advance into a three-dimensional world. In a three-dimensional world people are able to interact with one another and use their senses. One would accept and be able to understand a new reality. For example, if the prisoners were released, they would be curious to turn around and look behind them or walk towards the light, it is human nature. It would also be hard to do. The light would burn their eyes and the outside world would be a major change and might be hard to accept. Naturally, the prisoners would be scared and hesitant, but in order to move into the next world, one must be strong and escape from the cave in order to find a true reality. Once they seek the knowledge and good things in life that make a person happy, they will be living in a three-dimensional world. Plato thought, my opinion is that in the world of knowledge the idea of good appears last of all, and is seen only with an effort; and, when seen, is also inferred to be the universal author of all things beautiful and right.? For one to live in a three d imensional world, they would not sit back and choose to accept what is in front of them as reality. A person that lives in a two-dimensional world is not truly happy. They have not sought out knowledge or searched for true happiness. For the prisoners trapped in the cave to not ever dream or imagine other realities is showing that they accept where they are in life. It takes a person to truly search for better things in life and simple pleasures to break free from their two-dimensional world

Formal and Informal Situations In much of the English-speaking world, it is customary to strike the right tone when giving and receiving gifts. Phrases for Giving Gifts Here are some common informal phrases you can use when youre giving a gift to a close friend, family member, or loved one: I got you something. Moral Responsibility of a Leader Research Paper

Moral Responsibility of a Leader - Research Paper Example Intercultural impacts and massive communication facilities are leading us towards next major evolutionary step in human history, the world citizenship. Every individual involved in this process is required to lead an interconnected group in a subtle way. Hence every citizen of the planet is required to hone their leadership abilities like never before. Their leadership quality should be governed by ethics more than personal or group oriented preferences (Schmidt, 2007). But, the way the world works show we are treading in the exact opposite direction. No one ever takes responsibility of any mishap. Rush Kidder pinpoints the lack of this major moral responsibility as â€Å"Ethics Recession†. We will discuss the reasons for the situation, its adverse affects and the means to change into better leaders in this paper. Introduction Every moral leader is responsible not only for their actions but also the dealings they could have prevented doing for the welfare of everyone. Huge corporate companies and conglomerations which will lead this technological era should have iron willed leaders capable of choosing the best for both their company as well as the world in general. This is where ethics come is picture. Every good leader considers all the given options and its alternatives before taking any major decision. They analyze the consequences and the emotional impacts that might affect his crew and others in general. They take firm decisions which are profitable to the company and his employees. They also take the moral responsibility for any discomfort caused by this action (Taylor, 2000). They compensate groups or people affected in the required way and convince them to co-operate in the big picture of development, putting aside their personal grievances. This is exactly how moral leaders behaved for centuries. But the question here is ‘Why is there a sudden decline in such effective leadership?’ Every problem the world faces today, from economical recession to, terrorism and infiltration are a result of this lack of moral leadership (Anello, 2006). The US housing bubble, a major reason for the recession is the best example for what lack of work ethics will do. What happene d to our modern and moral citizens? Will world citizens be well dressed cannibals eating others opportunities whenever possible? If so is it development or a path to destruction? To find suitable answers to these questions we should first define â€Å"Morals† and â€Å"Ethics† The Enormous Responsibility of Leadership The word â€Å"Value† refers to something of importance. A commodity or a products value is determined based on its importance. Similarly the â€Å"Value† of a person is also determined based on his position or status. The decision taken by the ruler or the leader has more â€Å"Value† than the decision taken by a normal man. But every leader including the King was expected to follow some moral conducts known as â€Å"ethics† to maintain this â€Å"value† or their position in the ancient world. When the mob refused to follow its ethics, dictators arouse. When Kings failed to add â€Å"Value† to their decisions thr ough non ethical conduct, the church condemned them and revolutions arouse. The higher the position is the necessity to follow the code of conduct or ethics increases. Hence most of the nobles, church dignitaries and Kings

Treatment of Women in Medea by Euripides (431 BC) Essay

Treatment of Women in Medea by Euripides (431 BC) - Essay Example Aristophanes, the contemporary writer of comedies, included several mocking references to Euripides' plays, including Medea, in his works. (March p32) One of the reasons was that Euripides tended to go against the tide by taking up the cause of groups, which had no voice of their own (women and slaves, for instance). We must remember that Medea itself was a play written about a woman by a man for men. Euripides chose a subject/character-that of Medea-which was well known to the Athenian theatre going public. However, he took some liberties with the story-with the specific horrific detail of Medea murdering her young sons, which is the pivot on which the audience's (lack of) sympathy for Medea rests. According to legend, Medea did not kill the children (March p35). But Euripides constructed his plot in this manner probably for intensifying the dramatic effect, but more likely to point out what a person who had no power to control her own life could do, if pushed to the corner. Tyro is unmarried and pregnant. She leaves her baby to die in the woods. This child-Pelias-was rescued by shepherds. Tyro marries Cretheus, son of Aeolus, and has three children. Later on, when Pelias returns, his mother accepts him back into the family. When Tyro's husband dies, Pelias seizes the throne of Iolcos, although it legitimately belongs to his half-brother, Aeson. When Pelias tries to get the sanction of the oracle for his deed, he is warned of danger from a descendant of Aeolus "with one sandal". Jason, grandson of Aeolus is sent away by Pelias. Jason grows to manhood and returns-he arrives, having swum across the river, losing a sandal in it. He then claims the throne which is rightfully his. Pelias decides to send Jason on a mission to avenge the death of Phrixus. So Jason sets out with his crew in his ship the Argo. They reach Colchis. Here he meets the king's daughter, Medea, and they fall in love. Medea helps Jason with her magical powers, to outwit her father and o btain the Golden Fleece. Medea, while fleeing from Colchis with Jason, does not hesitate to kill her brother, Absyrtus, throwing his limbs one by one into the water, in order to slow down her father, who stops to pick them up. Thus they escape to Greece. But when they reach Iolcos, they find that Pelias has murdered Jason's family. So she plays a trick on Pelias. She butchers an old ram, and boils it with some herbs, bringing forth a young lamb. So Pelias' daughters attempting to make their father young, cut him up and boil him in the pot. This is a trick played by Medea on them to kill Pelias. The people of Iolcos, however, do not want Jason to become king. So Medea and he flee to Corinth. The action of Medea, the play, takes place here, many years later. (Classics Pages)From the background information, it is evident that Medea dabbles in magic-she is a sorceress; she is

The Fairytale of Illusions Essay Example for Free

The Fairytale of Illusions Essay Once upon a time in a far away land unseen to man, there was a powerful realm called Fairytale country. The largest kingdom within Fairytale country was the Magical Kingdom which was owned by the selfish King Americus and Queen Eura. Magical Kingdom was a place filled with beauty, peace, and harmony. It was considered as such because of the beautiful, peaceful, and harmonious people inside the Magical Castle. What most outsiders did not know was the fact that the ordinary residents of Magical Kingdom have a different outlook on their situation. There was no beauty in their place, no peace, and absolutely no harmony. The Magical Castle took no notice of these predicaments. They merely solved the residents’ problems by means of magic tricks and illusions that their problems have been solved. When the farmers would complain about the lack of compensation from the castle, the King and Queen would order their illusionists to make the farmers believe that they have increased their payment. This way, believing that they were being given more than enough of what they truly deserve, all the residents loved the King and Queen The beloved King and Queen of Magical Kingdom later bore an extraordinary princess by the name of Selene. The King and Queen were so proud of their only daughter that they invited the most famous and powerful fairies of Fairyland on Selene’s baptism to grant her eternal gifts. There were thirteen fairies present on the baptismal celebration. Only twelve were recognized and invited by the King and Queen. They blessed her with eternal gifts of beauty, wisdom, kindness, compassion, obedience, creativity, wealth, diligence, honesty, loyalty, innocence, and happiness. All these gifts were believed to stay with her for the rest of her life to restrict her in a life that was to be dictated by her parents. The King and the Queen were so delighted that their daughter would be expected to live a perfect and happy life just like the other princesses in the Fairytale country like Snow White, Belle, Aurora, and Rapunzel. They hurriedly instructed all their servants to prepare a glamorous feast for the newly-baptized baby. Amidst the festivity, no one ever noticed the thirteenth fairy who attended the baptism. The thirteenth fairy, a loner who mostly enjoyed the company of the ogres and dwarves in the forest, thought that the gifts for baby Selene were too common and boring. She knew of the King’s evil and misleading deeds so she initially planned to end the life of the child on her eighteenth birthday. Remaining hidden among the crowd, the fairy flew silently and slowly to the elegant cradle of the royal baby. â€Å"How indeed beautiful you are, young Selene,† the thirteenth fairy whispered softly. The innocent look on the baby’s face made her change her mind about the death wish she was about to cast to her. She realized that she cared too much for the town to ruin a potential rescuer. She decided to give her something that the other stupid and ignorant princesses of Fairytale country do not possess. â€Å"Today, I will grant you the most powerful gift—a gift that no other princess deserves to have. This gift will soon change the wicked and cruel ways of this kingdom. However, the gift will only manifest upon your 18th year on Fairytale country. † In a silent chant, she whispered the gift to the innocent Selene and disappeared into the crowd. Years passed by and Selene grew up into a fine young woman. She was extremely beautiful extrinsically and intrinsically. The people of Magical Kingdom adored her, and even the other princesses within the Fairytale country wished to be a friend of hers. At a very young age of fifteen, she had plenty of royal suitors who desired to marry her once she turned eighteen and become ready for the throne. Quite expectedly, her parents had already pre-arranged her future marriage to Prince Gorf of Marioland. He was the son of King Harry and Queen Hermione. Selene reluctantly agreed for the sake of her parents’ happiness. However, her secret friend, Lance, would always convince her not to give her consent. He was a secret friend because he was an ordinary boy from outside the castle who would regularly sent her charcoal sketches of the world outside by wrapping the paper around a rock and throwing it over towards her bedroom window. Lance would write her stories about the outside world which she found to be exactly the opposite of what she saw from her castle window. She would often write back asking more questions about the real world. Lance claimed it was hell outside, and what she merely saw from her window were illusions created by her parent’s magicians and illusionists. However, the King and Queen were quite strict in terms of her extreme friendliness with the ordinary residents of Magical Kingdom, so they kept the friendship secret. Later on, they stopped writing to each other when Lance accused the King and Queen of fooling their people. Selene never believed him because her parents would always remind her how good they were to the residents and how ungrateful these residents were to them. Despite these claims, Selene wondered why they prohibited her to roam outside the kingdom. â€Å"There are dangerous people outside our gardens, dear Selene. You are not to go beyond those fences for you might be held captive by rebels who wish to dethrone your father,† the King explained when Selene implied an interest in seeing the world outside the castle grounds. â€Å"We cannot please everybody even though how hard we try, my dear. † â€Å"Dethrone you? How can they possibly even think of replacing you? They owe you their life, father,† Selene protested with a puzzled look. She could not believe that there were even evil people who exist. This was the result of being given the gift of innocence. â€Å"Indeed, indeed,† the Queen interfered. â€Å"We have given them everything they need but still some of them abhor us. Yet, it is understandable, Selene. They are of the lesser beings. Please just promise us never to cross that fence. † Since she was gifted with obedience, she never dared to see the world outside the castle until the morning of her eighteenth year on Fairytale country. Early that morning, when most of the servants were still asleep and the guards’ eyes were half-closed, she woke up in haste with a strange feeling of curiosity. She suddenly got out of bed and silently roamed around the garden of the castle. She noticed the tall and heavily-cemented fence that separates the castle from the world outside. She thought she heard a sound coming from behind that fence. â€Å"Is someone there? † She called out softly afraid to awaken the guards on duty nearby. â€Å"Selene! † She heard someone replied at the other side. She recognized that familiar voice and that voice was the only person who never called her princess. â€Å"Selene, come out here. I’ve dug a hole for you where you can slip out of these fences. † Selene followed where she thought she heard the voice the loudest then looked down. There was a small hole beneath the stone fence where her small stature was capable of crawling out. â€Å"I can’t,† she hesitated. â€Å"What do you mean, you can’t? I’ve dug this hole for over a month to prove what you previously accused of me as lies,† Lance insisted. Finally, she gave in. She carefully bent down to ease her way through the small hole that Lance had hollowed out for her. She was transformed into a world much different to her previous one. She saw dead trees and starving animals. She caught sight of a seemingly deserted town very much opposite of the town she saw from her window view. She saw the rugged and tired image of Lance looking at her. One by one, the ordinary residents came walking towards her. All of them appeared to be starving and filthy. Nobody seemed to be the reflection of the nourished people her parents have described before. She could not believe it. â€Å"What is this place? † She asked in horror unable to believe she was just a few steps away from her castle. â€Å"This is your town, Selene,† Lance murmured in a sympathetic tone. â€Å"Help us, Princess†¦Ã¢â‚¬ she heard the approaching townspeople said. â€Å"Help us. † She was startled by the sudden bolt of thunder and lightning which pierced the sky. She noticed the sudden shift of the townspeople’s attention from her to the castle behind her. In shock, she had forgotten the existence of a place before her. She shifted her gaze to the castle. She stared in horror as she caught whole view of the castle’s repulsiveness. It was covered in dark moss, fully surrounded and enveloped by dark bulging clouds. The facade were ornamented with cracks and the towers were fully nested with ugly crows. It was not an image of beauty and absolutely not a place of peace and harmony. It was an image of darkness and evil only covered with elegant ornaments and illusions. Illusions—everything the princess have known before were merely illusions. Among the flock of trees, the thirteenth fairy smiled as she saw the look on the princess’ face. The fairy was torn between the feeling of pity towards the princess’ previous life of ignorance and delight that she had finally made her way outside that ignorance. Her eyes were finally opened to the real world outside her fairytale life. â€Å"At last, the gift of reality has already been consumed. †

the Cathedral :: essays research papers

OUT and OUT The buzz-saw snarled and rattled in the yard And made dust and dropped stove-length sticks of wood, Sweet-scented stuff when the breeze drew across it. And from there those that lifted eyes could count Five mountain ranges one behind the other Under the sunset far into Vermont. And the saw snarled and rattled, snarled and rattled, As it ran light, or had to bear a load. And nothing happened: day was all but done. Call it a day, so they said To please the boy by giving him the half hour That a boy counts so much when saved from work. His sister stood beside them in her apron To tell them "Supper." At the word, As to put the saw down to rest As the saw knew what â€Å"supper† meant The saw, leaped out at the boy's hand, or seemed to leap He must have given it a flick of the hand. However it was, The saw met its final lay at rest on the arm of the girl. The boy's first outcry was a rueful laugh, As his sister remained silent as if nothing was of big matters As he froze in astonishment of what had just occurred, Half in appeal, but half as if to keep His sister’s life from spilling. Then the boy saw all Since he was old enough to know, big boy Doing a man's work, though a child at heart He could not bear to see what the saw has done. It was not his doing; but the saw, Or was it him that caused this atrocity? Why was he given the half hour? Why couldn’t they let him work into the evening? It was not his fault, His sister screamed â€Å"supper† to him. He saw all spoiled. "Don't them see who has done this The doctor, when he comes. Don't let him, sister!" Sister could not comprehend what has become of the boy, But the raising was done, and the outcome was the boy. What would happen to him? Not his sister, but to him? The doctor put him in the dark of ether. All attention was to be given to the boy’s sister. He cannot allow this to be his fault. He lay and puffed his lips out with his breath. He paced to and fro, thinking, thinking, Of what to do, what to say now. And then-the watcher of the girl’s pulse took fright. No one believed. They listened at her heart.

Meat Industry Essay

People all over the world eat meat for its nutritional value and taste. The United States Department of Agriculture reports that in the year 2011 people in the U.S consumed 25.6 billion pounds of beef. Most of this meat was produced in America. A Holistic approach to food production is important in order to improve the quality of beef. What we feed our cattle, the housing conditions and the slaughter procedure directly impacts our food. What the farmers feed cattle directly affects the quality of beef for the consumer. The cow has many more benefits from eating grass than being fed corn. It is a lot healthier for cows to consume grass because that is what their stomachs are made for. The stomachs have three sections that are made specifically for digesting grass (Healthy Theory -Corn-Fed Vs. Grass-Fed Beef). Today, most cows are put on a diet that is based on corn. The cows used to be fed grass and roam free but since than there have been changes. The idea about feeding cattle grain began during World War II. It all started when farmers were producing more grain than the American population could handle, so the rest of it was fed to cows. It was discovered that feeding a cow different types of grains fattened them up a lot faster than when cows were consuming grass. With a grass fed diet, it takes cows about five years to reach 1,200 pounds. However, with the grain-based diet it takes a cow about 390 days to get to a reachable weight for slaughter (Healthy Theory -Corn-Fed Vs. Grass-Fed Beef). Also, the producer benefits more from feeding his cows corn because it is cheaper than grass. Therefore, a diet based on corn is more cost effective but the quality of meat has less nutritional value (Why Grass Fed- Health Benefits of Grass Fed Beef). The consumer benefits more from meat that comes from cows that consume grass rather than in-taking different types of grains. The cow is a lot healthier and happier when it is eating grass, which results in higher quality meat. Since cows’ stomachs are meant to break down grass, a corn based diet causes changes in the digestion of a cow leading to serious health problems, such as diarrhea, ulcers, and a weakened immune system. As a result of these issues, the cows are given antibiotics to help prevent this from occurring, which makes the meat unhealthier (Healthy Theory -Corn-Fed Vs. Grass-Fed Beef). Another huge topic of concern is the disregard of animal welfare. These animals aren’t being cared for and they are treated as units of production (Learn About The Issues). In order to fatten up cows in time for slaughter, many farmers put them in feedlots. The conditions these cows go through are unbearable. As many cows as possible are crammed into each pen. The result of this is massive amounts of waste covering the animals living space (The Issues Animal Welfare). This causes the air to be unhealthy and creates many gases and diseases that aren’t wanted. During the whole time the cows are in the feedlot they are breathing in methane gas. Large amounts of methane are bad for animals because it takes away oxygen from the air, which can affect the central nervous system (2- Health Effects of Methane). The alternative is a more holistic way, which allows the cattle to roam around freely on huge pastures until they get fat enough to get slaughtered. In the United States, animal welfare is being ignored, because cows are being treated in a cruel and unhealthy way. When they are living in the feedlots, they are covered with manure and aren’t being cared for. As soon as cows are fat enough to get slaughtered, they are sent to the closest slaughterhouse. On their journey they are faced with heartbreaking situations. They are often transported from 1,200 to 1,500 miles away in scorching hot weather or freezing temperatures. Dr. Lester Friedlander, a former U.S. Department of Agriculture veterinarian inspector said, â€Å"They are crammed onto trucks and go without food or water for days†. When it is cold, they are in the back of a trailer with nothing covering them. As the driver drives sixty miles per hour, cows are being exposed to a variety of extreme weather. Many cows collapse in hot weather. While they are traveling they urinate. After sometime it begins to freeze while their hooves are standing in it. Also, the fur of the cows â€Å"†¦ freezes to the sides of the trucks until workers pry them off with crowbars†(Cow Transport and Slaughter). When the cows get to the slaughterhouse, they are often in bad conditions. Most of them are sick and cannot walk because they are too weak. In order to move weak and injured cows they are dragged along with a bulldozer by a chain around their neck or leg. Even though they are in bad shape, cows are still being used for their meat because it means more money in the producer’s pocket. If some of the cows are able to walk, they are still abused. Workers beat them with a metal rod in order to move them faster (The Humane Society of the United States). Also, before they are killed the cows are lined up to wait for their turn to be stunned so that they will pass out before they get slaughtered. Sometimes the stunning procedure does not work. Ramon Moreno, a slaughterhouse worker has stated that he often has to cut the legs off of cows that are completely conscious. â€Å"They blink. They make noises,† he says. â€Å"The head moves, the eyes are wide and looking around. †¦ They die piece by piece.† If workers try to report that the cows are still alive they risk loosing their jobs (Cow Transport and Slaughter). After cows reach a certain weight they are ready to be slaughtered for meat consumption. The process of turning cows into packed meat can cause the meat to be infected. Before they are slaughtered, cows are cleaned. However, in some cases not well enough. The waste of the cow can get into the processed meat that is being cut by the workers. This can contaminate the meat with E-coli, which is a type of bacteria that can lead to death. â€Å"According to Centers for Disease Control estimates, up to 20,400 cases of E. coli infection and 500 deaths from E-coli disease occur annually in the United St ates† (Escherichia Coli 0157:H7). Another disease that is created in these fast paced industries is mad cow disease. (the issues-slaughterhouses and processing). Mad cow disease affects the cow’s nervous system and it causes the cow to act confused and loose control of the ability to walk (What is Mad Cow Disease). When people eat infected beef they may contract a human version of mad cow disease. It affects the nervous system causing depression and loss of coordination. As it becomes more severe, it causes dementia (The Basics of Mad Cow Disease). With our modern day technology, slaughterhouses are able to kill thousands and thousands of cow’s every day. There are many solutions that can change the food industry to produce their meat in a more animal friendly way. To help cut back more meat being produced in factories, consumers can support local farms by eating food that is grown locally. Holistic farming care for their animals and focus on getting delicious, healthy meat than just producing more and more for profit. The food quality of holistic farmed meat is a lot better because the cows are raised and treated well as opposed to when the animals are abused their whole life. If we really want a change, it is up to Americans to demand that. Currently, laws support the industrial farming methods and lack the attempt of helping small farms grow. An example is that American tax money goes to support research and the operating cost of large food producing companies (Learn About the Issues). In order for there to be a change, citizens need to become aware of the process. Change will happen by the consumer supporting politicians who are looking to change the food industry. Consequently, producers would need to be more focused on the care of the animals than earning as much money as possible. What American farmers feed their cattle, where they raise them and how they get slaughtered directly impacts the quality of our food. It is important for consumers to be aware of the United States food industry because there is so much more behind the food brought to you in the supermarket. If the consumer buys meat that is produced holistically, and legislation puts focus on the care of animals, the food industry will be forced to improve their methods.
